In the beginning a wooden 1:1 model of the mainrib was build for a last check of some drawed dimensions.

On this sideview you can see the boat divided at the flange in two main parts. Under the cover is a workbench with a vice to shorten the tooling time.

The submarine is being build in so called "sections". Here you can see the tower which is completed and ready for builtin.

Begin of the build of the bowsection. The lying end of the sub body is going to be connected to the first outer mantle conus of the bowtank. For easier work the section was build upright and later turned round 90°.

The back section on the building slip. This section was also built in the upright position around the sterntube and later turned round 90° and put onto the axis of the dolly. Now it's very easy - like seen in the picture - to install the rudder holders.

Front- and sternsection and also deck- and towersection were put together without the main tube to do some fitting work. The yellow transportcars will later be prepared and serve as engine fundaments.

Two of the three drop board bowles. On the left 'secured' on the right 'open', changing status by turning it (middleaxis). Later a 1 ton dropweight will be installed on the keyhole to be dropped on emergency.

The mainsection on the building slip is nearly built. This section was completely made by a container construction facility and completed with the front-, backsection and the diving bulkhead.
The two engineers in the picture are preparing the x-ray of the welds. All pressure seams were made with welding robots and completely faultless. When the lamp (seen in the foreground) is in action, nobody is allowed to enter the area 17m around it.

The built body is arriving. A 100 ton truck-mounted crane unloads the two mainsections from the heavy goods vehicle.

Well to see in this picture is the principle of the dropweights. The submarine is divided at the front of the machine room to make installation of interior MUCH easier.
