Dear Frinds of the project, since some weeks we are again on trails. The diver lock out/in chamber was tested in the baltic sea at 14 m depth.
A lot of technic was improved, the high fog system and the side scan sonar tested and we operate the boat better and better. We are now able to run the boat smooth on periscop depth. Checklist and handbooks are written, the rudder indicators and the internal light improved and so on. On the other hand we have still 400 hours to do to get the boat to the maximium theoretical performance.

We make the harbour festival of Brake harbour town. Hundreds of people have visited the submarine. Nice that so many are intresst in but also a lot of attention and work all the time for three of the crew members. The next point is to work on the remaining work points to get the boat from "ready to travel and dive " to a status of "ready for Expedition". The next tour will take us out to the Northsea and than via the baltic channel into the Baltic to the harbour of Rostock. There we will test intensive the sub and training the crew.

Dear friends, the first travel was on the 4th August 2012 the river up , via the town of Bremen to a lake with a entrance from the river. We make there out first two dives to a depth of about 25 feet. Small leaks, many idears to make the sub better but no bigger problems. We sail back in the night and there fore test all lamps. On sunday the 5th August we sailed from the building location to the harbour of Brake. There will be a harbour festival on the weekend 11-12 August were the sub will be on display and clear for your inspection.

On the 7.7.2012 at about 17:17 and after 12 years of construction the Euronaut was christened from Annegret Standfuß and guided in its element. The bottle of champagne smashed with 36,4 kmh to the hull and vaporsied to 3785 parts. During the launching about 200 guest are there. Oposide to the weather forecast we have no thunderstorm but nice warm sunshine weather. We made a small turn on the river with 1600 of possible 2400 rpm of the main-engine. The boat is surprisley manoverable for a 60ts monster.

The opical-elctronical mast is working. We have now GPS and via UMTS Internet conection. Als a Steamerlight, a Positionlight and two deckslight. All three cameras in the mast are online. Means fife of the seven planned cameras are working. The lowpressure
test was also done. We notice how important in comes more and more to write a good manual!

Dear friends, this weekend, Emile, Alexei, Tom and George work here.
The regulator has taken to overhaul by Tom.
He also arranges for the new filling hoses for the diver chamber - the others are quite old.
To launch the boat it carry out that that we need six 2.5 ts lifting bags are mounted on both sides of the U-boat for draft reduction.
So we drilled 14 holes in the bilge keels and there used M16 eyebolts.
A lifting bag was inflated and assembled an experimental basis.
The five are appointed lifting bags would roll in here next week, the 12 belts are already here.
The rear dip tank is bolted close top and bottom and the front at the bottom. Above is not because I'm still working on the anchor windlass inside.
Emile come with the cable troughull for the mast and the head for the Highfog high pressure bottle built here over and mounted.
All mast cables are final in the boat but the plugs still need to be installed.
Arne has also drawn on wired and made a wiring diagram for the bilge water alarm system. We now have indicator lights for neutral gear in the center and the tower.
The power connection for the mast was started and the switching panel "optical-mast" was built.
A final vacuum test in the next week is awaited.
Alexei has actually two video cameras could again elicit a color image - at both the coaxial cable connectors were loose!
In addition, he has mounted the rudder control wires final. Emile has seen the bilge pumps complete and revised as the result one of the motor mounts.
I ordered six new belts, four for use and two in spare.
The fire-resistant mattresses for the diver chamber are appointed. A few bottles were filled.
George has made a proposal for the first aid kit. With defilibrator, pulse oximeter, and even a lot different other stuff.
Enough material to go through as a hospital ship ..
Unfortunately, coming on the work list for each hour that is crossed out a new addition. There are still 70 hours.

Hello, we did some more work. Two salon outsides walls were divided to make it possible to install watertight storage boxes for the Crew equipment. Also the control-panel for the diver chamber were divided to make the work on the high fog sprinkler system behind easier. We install some more cables and Arne take the first test runs with the Underwater three phase AC converter. The opto-electronical mast was installed in his foundation.

Hello, this weekend we filled the freshwater tank and scale the read out indicator pipe.
All sinks, water chock are now in use. Also the water closet, the black water tank and all auxiliary water pumps.
Yesterday we run the first time the hot water boiler and we filled all water system up to the highest vent pipe to test the tightness of the pipe system.
The complete fresh - and waste water system is now operational.
On the converter system to make in underwater mode from the DC of the batteries a 3 phase 380V AC was also some further work done.

The last days I install the gas- and water tight storages boxes between the frames. All together 38 aluminium boxes which were original part of a field-kitchen. A holder for a handheld GPS was installed in the sail.

Dear friends, a saftey cover was applied in front of the 400V DC to 380V AC Cabinet. The wall panel behind the seamap was divided in two for better access to the cabeltracks without dismounting the navigation electronics. The seemap holder was mounted. The lock's of the sail top covers were reinstalled and the top dome polished. The video-, antenna and light mast is ready for installation. But the nessesary troughhulls are still missing. A fire- and Safteyplan was made and pre-installed.
The command switch panel in the sail is now working. We can control now from the sail during surface station the siderudder, bowthruster, sternthruster, main engine and the gear.
A 3D Modelmaker has designed the perfect Euronaut Modell.

Hello, the cable to the controlbox in the sail is nearly done and another storage holder for a emergency breathing apparatus was made. Both main computer get an backup and the underwater 380V 3phase system is nearly ready. According to the worklist we have only 95 hours to go.

Hello. Arne has arrangent that the progammable mainbattery shore conection charger works. The mainbatterys are full. Also the electronic controlled pumps runs now even with the shore charger on the battery.
Some overvoltage limiter makes that possible.

Dear readers, we had many small advances the last days. The trimplate now runs together with limit switches and PLCs. Still need the inclinometer and the emergency hand control. On Optical-electronic mast was also built further. Two additional cameras were installed there and a USB port for the UMTS antenna. In addition, the shore power battery charger arrived and was assembled. Another switchbox is now in the engine compartment - with a switch selector for the different AC 3-Phase sources. And the work to sign everthing with lables is finished.

Today I would like to remember someone. His name is Hans Siegfried Rathjen. He died on Monday the 05.12.2011 at the age of 67. Hans Siegfried Rathjen was in the time I had the pleasure of working with him a technical inspector in the DGzRS. He was a very nice contemporary and carried out his job with skill and dedication. Not least, it is thanks to his experience that some new buildings that we had worked out together on the Schweers Shipyard, have become so good - as they are here. Hans Rathjen has taught many years ago, the diesel engine of the submarine from surplus stocks of the DGzRS at a very fair price. Marine diesel engines often have proper names. Previously this diesel was called "Helene", after the rescue cruiser's daughter boat he came from initially. As of today he is now so called "Hans". In the hope that he will be as conscientious and reliable as its namesake and of course as a constant reminder.

Hello, we apply more and more signs. The engine control is now also from the command room possible. The two new and now watertight computers are installed. Good morning. Tom and Emile are here and the rope basket are installed under the deck. The four ropes are also here. They are designed that way that you can use them all together as one long towing line. We have start to apply the last layers of paint to the pressure hull. Tomorrow Georg will help us with that.
The new Radio works and Alexej and Tim installed the new computer. This version is now complete watertight. And one more video camera is operational.

Today the new batteries from BBS Bremer Batterie Service arrived. 58 pcs. 12V 230Ah. Total 160Kwh of power capacity.
We build two temporay cranes, one for inside and one for the outside. 12 batteries are now in the ship and tomorrow Alexej, Tim and Arne come to help to lift the rest in. In the control room some indivator gauges are also finalizied. Pictures under "the sub" / "diving equipment".

Dear friends after some time a new update. The second hand purchase main battery which we purchase for test drives, did not survive the winter. We put them out and scrapp them. A new 4 tons battery is under order but will not be here before may. But the 40kw electronic motorcontoller is now running and we can drive the electric main motor and also charge the battery. The second, smaller one drive battery is operational now.

Happy Christmas! The higher alltitude underpressure experiments are finished. We reach a low pressure equal to 5000 meter high mountains in 6 minutes. A three crew members shows high alltitude illness - a little like to much alcohol. The electric sideruder acutator is finish and runs - but we can not test the ruder itself because of ice and snow. In this days we test external a aircraft direction gyro.

We run the diverchamber, the transfer hatch, the engine, the generator, alarmlights and claxon, the complete internal light and also the external one. The intercom, the navigation, the valves of the hardtanks, the emergency supply air of the diverchamber and some other stuff.

Also this weekend a S/S bumper protecton for the side-scan-sonar was build, the anchor system finalzied and the pumps for fuel trim, heating, warmwatercirculation and bilgewater are conected to the cables. Dear friends, the bowlights are installed. The radios work. We can now listen to "Bremen port". 75% of all cables are in - but still not connect. The third battery group is 50% on the wire. The cuhsions for the salon are in and fit. Georg and I drop one of the emergency drop plates for test purpose and reinstall it. The sub has now his letter of size, home harbour and IMO number are labeled on the sail. The boat is now in the register of seaships and has now the right to raise the country flag all over the sea. We have the okay from a insurance company and the okay for a place in a harbour. And we have still at least 250 hours to do. Mostly electric and electronics.

On the last weekend Alex and Ingo preparing sail and deck for the final paint by sanding and washing. The last four days I paint the sail and the deck. Its RAL 5010 blue a very strong signal blue. Heaven what a blue.. We will later add a yellow strip around the sail so that the boat will be better vissible at sea. Very simmilar to the old school-submarine in the baltic sea during WWII. About the half of the new AGM battery has found place behind the coverplates of the command-room. Rest will follow soon.

The boat was lifted with the help of some heavy hydraulic jacks about 100mm to get the three keybolts out for maintance and final installation. This bolts held the emergency dropplates in place. We got 1,6 ts more AGM batterys which awaiting installation next time. The preparing for the final paint job has just start.

The four servo controlled ballvalves for the soft- and the hardtanks are operational from the commandroom. The computer screen and the motor of one compressor, both destroyed by wrong wireing are replaced with new units.
The two hardtank hatches are now in place with the help of an very simple selfbuild crane. Another pressuretest dive up to 48 Meter "depth" was done in the diver lockout chamber.

There was not so much done over the winter months. But the diverlockout chamber has now light, the servodrive for the diverexithatch works and the two CO2 scrubbers there also.
In the hole sub the yellow alarmlight gots there cables. The two main CO2 scrubbers in the WC-room works and in the same location the fan and the pump for the watercoolingsystem of the frequencydrive of the electric mainmotor.

Hi, the electic drive has a second full power test allready done and the 60 batteries are connected to 380V DC output. The big pressure reducer between the highpressure airline and the medium pressure hardtank system was installed and tested. Some pressue gauges was installed.
The foundations and holder for the internal oxygen bottles and the storage bottle for the higfog sprinkler system are made and installed.

The inner section is nearly empty now. This is nessesary to sandblast and paint all the inner steelwalls and frames of the mainbody and the diverchamber. The new Thruster was purchased and premounted. All hatch seats a final grinded and polished.
The drain holes in the bilge areas of the frames are done. All internal Alu panels, walls and floorplates are engraved now with a description on the backside. The maindrive belt was final adjusted.

This weekend we make another important step. Ulrich runs the Frequency-driver for the electric main motor and Gernator in a test mode. The gearbox, shaft and propeller runs first time on electric power and als the charging of the batterys works. To do this the diesel runs the E-motor as generator and this one loads the batterys. Until now all Batterys are in the storehouse and under charge. Some of the final electrical Troughhulls for the sub are allready made and the additonal gearwheel for the diverexithatch is produced. Georg and I work the hole saturday to scrapp out the new rent Battery Storehouse. We move 40 (1,4t) of the 66 Submarine Batterys to the store. Sunday Ingo was here to meassure the size of the salon table. Sunday I make also the 33 Battery-bridges to connect all 12 V Batterys to pairs of 24 Volts and start to charge them. This weekend I work on the living space area in the supply-lorry. You can now imagine how it will looks later.
On the Euronaut I did the wireing job on the Intercom.
And we build three new contoll panels for the centrale-consoles.
Portside forward will be switches for Gear, Diesel and sideruder. The new panel on starboard aft contains the two switches for the deep ruder.
The is another simillar panel on portside aft which is unused and will be spare for later developments.

Hello, the drive runs for fife hours in a load test with the AC-generator to produce electric power without any problem. Diesel rpm was 1900 - means travel speed. The sub can produce his own electric power without a shore power conection. The keel-cooling-water system of the diesel is of that size that this work without time limit also onshore - at least in winter time.. Hi, both submarines are under snow. I display pictures at "Other projects" and "The sub" - "accessory" because the picture shows also my old VW-LT motorhome a last time - I will partly cannibalize it and than take a last long tour to a scrapping place. Over the winter I like to build also the interior of the blue supply lorry and will recyle parts of the VW motorhome like stove, frezzer and heather. It is clear that we work also on the interior of the Euronaut.

Hello, all 15 pressure bottles are now installed below the superstructure. All together 28 bottles are installed. The 15 outside one awaiting the final pipe conection. The softtanks are final painted inside. Next step is to reinstall the anchorsystem.

Hi, I just change my main job and start as Production manager of a small yard. The new job needs a lot of attention and therefor I have not so much time for the submarine. We start to paint the pressure hull below the superstructure so we can install the pressure bottles there in the next time. Also we start the paintjob of the inside of the soft ballast tanks.

Hello, the hardtank pipe work under the superstrucure is finished. Siderudder, deeprudder and bilgekeels and the inside of the hardtanks are final painted.
In the last days we work on the kuppling behind the maingear and the hotwater heating system in the diverchamber. Even we make some more lead bars for ballast reason.

Hello, Building progress: On the workship truck the electric overhead crane was installed. This crane can be use to change batterys and pressure bottles of the Euronaut even inside the harbour. The oneman midget submarine Sgt.Peppers is now in store inside this rolling workshop. At the Euronaut submarine the exterior exhaust system was final installed and also the two bilge keels are now on - including the zinc anodes.

Short: At the lorry the starter got a refit and the breakaircompressor was changed. Also the four windows of the accomodation part are installed. On the submarine many of the pipe system for the fire fighting sprinkler system are in now and we did further welding on the bow- and stern- thruster foundations. The bypass air pieping of the softtank entrance are nearly ready and the stainless steel wires for the side rudder lever are also installed. For the oilpressurecompensator of the anchor winch a foundation on the chain locker was installed.

Hello, during the last time not so much was done on the Submarine. Mostly because I work out the Lorry als Harbour-workshop-carrier. Unfortunatly this is a bigger refit. We cut and lower the cargobox roof by 400 mm and start to build an accomodation part inside. Stefan's new Rebreather homepage is online: www.exive-rebreather.eu .

Good evening people, the aft lateral thruster foundation is in and the bell-type-anchor is filled with 210 Kg lead, there for the anchor system is finished, accept the electric part. For the main drive belt down wheel a hinge was build so that a belt exchange is possible in a short time. The diesel engine exhaust system is now insulate and the aft fueltank manhole was closed.
We have also some progess on the pipeing of the wastewater and the bilge drainage system.

Dear friends, the weld-in plate for the thruster are here and I just make the treadholes for the flangeplates. Later this two plates will be install in the thruster pipes. The wheels and belt for the belt drive of the AC-Generator and the maindrive also arrived. The Ac-Generator belt-drive is allready installed. The main belt will be installed next time.

Hello, with the last storm tide the hull of the submarine saw water yesterday and the bilge of the machine area, which is not yet waterproof partitioned, was flooded. Since the bilge under the floor plates at present is however empty there around pipes to draw in limited itself the damage on evacuates and wipes. The spring system is far progressed and at present works we on the fresh water supply for cold and warm water.

Hello, at present I insert the anchor plant. Hoist and mushroom anchors are already inserted. The chain guard is in preparation. The way of the chain guidance turns out however as surprisingly difficult and time-consuming. Arne raves itself meanwhile in the engine room at the cables out. Both compressors and the two high pressure bilge pumps are now electrically up-wedged. We installed a further cable railway in the MR. A drainage canister for compressor condensate was also installed. The toothed belt wheels for the AC generator and the main drive belt are ordered. In addition various stainless steel water pipelines and the fuel retrimming station develop are so well finished.

Hello, I have holiday and working strong on the submarine. Both electric drives for side and deep - rudder are now installed. At the moment I melt every day about 300 kg (700 pound) lead to bars which will find there place under the batteries in the bilge of the boat. Hi folk, the 2007 crew- metting was used for a deep test of the diver lock-out/lock-in and decompresion chamber. For this purpose we pump 7.5 ts river water inside the chamber and pressurzied the chamber with air to 32 bars/468 psi - equal to a divedeep of 320 Meter or 1050 feet. The chamber did the job without problems and the three video remote controled gauge indicate that the bending and stress in the bulkheads is inside the tolerance of Andre's FE-computer-model. On the next day Stefan did a manned "dive" to 80 Meters dephts (260 feet. Down and groundtime 10 Minutes, decompresion overall time 50 minutes. The chamber will be now sandblast and than paint. Than reinstallation of all the inside equipment and after this full operational. A small but important step for this submarine project. All crew members a thank you for there help. The next crew-meeting will be about end of the year for the test run of all the machinery room equipment.

Hello, something has be done in the last weeks. We start with the bilge-system and install the 24 V DC generator. On this Weekend we will build out all the equipment from the diverchamber and pressurzied the chamber with water to testdeep. We do this in combination with the crew meeting 2007.

The page is in testing status at the moment. Unfortuantely I'm not able to do anything with the sub: My foot is in hard plaster.. :-( Basically done in the last weeks were some tubes for the ventilation system of the diesel-, fresh- and wastewater tanks. The ankerage is also in preparation. |
