The submarine E-16 sunk in the initial stage of the first world war in a minefield neat helgoland and was lost until 1996.

In June 1996 Carsten located it with his wreck-search boat "Komet" and the help of a sidescan sonar near a BSH Position in the north of helgoland. The tower hangs snapped off on the periscope and a mine destroyed the back heavily. Otherwise the wreck is in good state.
